Windward — Center Harbor 31

1997, Joel White / Brooklin Boat Yard / Center Harbor 31, 31’

Windward was built by Brooklin Boat Yard in 1997 to the much-admired Center Harbor 31 design as conceived and drawn by Brooklin Boat Yard founder Joel White. Under the names of The Mantlepiece and Nipantuck and under the command of highly competitive skippers with talented crews she had a very successful racing career sailing mostly out of the Boothbay / Mid-Coast Maine & Casco Bay areas.

In 2015, she was refit by Brooklin Boat Yard to enable her to take on a new mission exploring new sailing venues — the mid-western lakes and southeast Florida. To allow her to navigate and make full use of her new shallow water sailing locations, her keel was removed and replaced with a new shallow-draft, long-cord fin bulb keel, which interestingly enough turns out to be very similar to Joel White’s original keel design for Grace — the first boat built of the Center Harbor 31 line.

Of course, all during this purposeful refit, great attention was paid to make sure that the design of the boat remained true to Joel White’s original concepts for the Center Harbor 31. All aspects of the boat and work were attended to in a fashion to make her “just like new.”

Finally, to allow her owner to change sailing venues seasonally, a “float on/float off” trailer was custom designed and built by Triad Trailer allowing the boat (now named Feather) to move back and forth between the salt water of coastal southeastern Florida and Upper Midwest freshwater lakes.

Feather brought great joy to her then owner who could then sail as much as and wherever he liked. Today, as Windward, she still provides her current owners with that same feeling here now sailing out of Casco Bay back in her home state of Maine.

Windward is in extremely good condition and offered at a price well below what can be considered as Fair Market Value for the highly prized Center Harbor 31’s. Stored indoors in climate-controlled space Windward, can easily be seen no matter the weather. Contact us to arrange a viewing.
