Overview

Pleione is a custom 8-Metre Class sloop designed by Jim Taylor and built by Bruce Dyson. The brief was a vessel that balances classic 1930s aesthetics with modern performance technology — an owner who prioritized seaworthiness for upwind work, coastal cruising comfort, and controlled downwind performance over pure speed-focused design.

Construction

Cold-molded / wood-epoxy hull with laminations of Spanish cedar and Honduras mahogany. Lead ballast keel of 11,540 lbs. Displacement 18,500 lbs.

Fractional (3/4) sloop rig, total sail area 2,169 sq ft.

Auxiliary

Yanmar 3GM30 diesel, 30 HP, installed 2018 with approximately 50 hours.
