Madrigal — Sparkman & Stephens / Paul Luke Yawl

Madrigal was designed by Sparkman and Stephens (design #1330) and built by the Paul E. Luke shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine as hull number 54. She was launched in June of 1958 and has remained in the original family of ownership ever since.

Madrigal was designed as a fast racer/cruiser and has excelled in both venues. Her racing career started in 1962 with the Newport to Bermuda race and continued through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in club and offshore races winning many trophies and accolades.

Madrigal returned to Maine in 1982 and continued to race in local regattas and as a local favorite in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta Classic Boat series competing in the first regatta in 1985 and continued until 2006 when she retired from racing.

Since that time Madrigal has been used by her owners for day sailing excursions here on the Eggemoggin Reach along with weekend and weeklong cruises farther afield on the coast of Maine.

Madrigal has been well maintained by her owner(s) along with modern timely upgrades by Brooklin Boat Yard such as addition of laminated sister ribs from mast step to engine beds in 1988, Dynel / epoxy covering of the cabin top in 1990, a complete replacement of sub-decking and new teak surface decking along with removal, rebedding and reinstallation of all deck hardware along with an updating of galley furniture and equipment all in 2007.

Madrigal is stored inside with us here at Brooklin Boat Yard. She is in very good condition and ready for her next family to assume the role of her stewards for generations to come. Contact our brokers to schedule a visit to Brooklin Boat Yard and a chance to see Madrigal up close and personal.
