1 / 9 Jeanette — Cavanaugh Lobster Yacht
From the 1950’s to the 1970’s Vinnie Cavanaugh of Portland (Maine) designed and built a series of 36’ cruisers in the “lobster yacht” genre. Alex Haddon (Hadden Boat Building Company / Georgetown, Maine) took the lines off one of these boats by the name of Willo (ex JJ) and to those lines built the boat Judy Sue but differed from many of Cavanaugh’s boats in that he gave Judy Sue a hard topped pilot house area as opposed to the Cavanaugh boats which usually sported a canvas dodger type arrangement.
Launched in 2012, Judy Sue was taken by her then / original owners down to the Chesapeake Bay area but unfortunately, not long after this time, Judy Sue’s owner became ill and all to quickly passed away, leaving his widow with the boat that he had spent years designing and building with Alex Hadden.
For a number of years after the death of her original owner Judy Sue stayed at the Higgins Yacht Yard in St. Michaels (MD) who maintained her as needed and kept her in good condition unlike some boats in this situation that become forgotten and neglected.
Her owner’s widow just could not bring herself to sell her husband’s boat but as these things happen, one day a man from Massachusetts with boats in his blood was driving by the Higgins Yard when a vessel of particular merit and style caught his eye. Like many of us he forgot whatever else he was supposed to be doing that day, turned into the boat yard and fell in love with Judy Sue.
Following some heartfelt appeals, promises to do right by Judy Sue’s original owner, some negotiation, a survey, a purchase and some minor refit work by the Higgins Yacht Yard the man from Massachusetts pointed her bow North and brought her back to New England.
Keeping true to his word to love and care for Judy Sue just as much as her original owner he brought the boat (now named Jeanette) all the way north to her builder Alex Hadden and commissioned the Hadden Boat Building Company to do a full vessel restoration and comprehensive equipment upgrade program.
After her restoration, Jeanette was stored seasonally and maintained year-round by the Haddon Boat Building Company for several years and only recently has she moved a more convenient slip location at The Maine Yacht Center in Portland (ME) where she also is spending her winters under the watchful eyes and caring maintenance of the Maine Yacht Center craftsman and staff.
Jeanette is in perfect condition and completely ready for her next owners whoever they might be and wherever they would like to go. Jeanette is docked in her slip at Maine Yacht Center and ready for your inspection. Contact us to arrange a viewing.
